Artist, Gustavo Glorioso, went from playing professional soccer to the world of painting. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina (where he played for Independiente, a first division professional soccer team), Gustavo came to Chicago to play the sport. Later he moved to Buffalo to play for the Buffalo Stallions. At the age of 26 he discovered he could draw, and attended UB’s Fine Arts and Graphic Design programs. Later he earned degrees in, Elementary Education, Special Education, Bilingual Special Education, Art Education, and a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Science at BSC. He was granted a fellowship for his master’s project “The Malvinas/Falkland Island War Series”, and the honor of being within the best 5 master’s project at SUNY College at Buffalo for the year 2000.
Painting professionally since 1991, Gustavo has achieved local, national, and international recognition by placing his work with collectors in Latin America and in different regions of the USA. Also, he has participated in solo shows and exhibits, as well as with other artists, at UB ( Buffalo, NY, 1985, 1986, and 1987), BSC (Buffalo, NY, 1999), El Museo (Buffalo, NY, 2000, 2001, 2002), Impact Gallery (Buffalo, NY, 2003), Mill Pond Center for the Arts (Durham, MA 2005), Puccio Galleries, (NYC, 2005), Scala Galleria (Santa Monica, CA 2005), and Art Dialogue (2006). New paintings were displayed at Puccio Galleries in NYC during 2006-07. Newspapers, magazines and, television shows in the USA and in Argentina, began to recognize his talent and praise his work. ArtVoice Magazine named Gustavo “Buffalo Artist of the Week” in their first issue of 2005. The same publication named Gustavo “2005 Western New York’s Best Visual Artist”. He paints on canvas as well as on free standing structures. Most of his early works depict social issues that affect world’s societies. Later, his work evolved in a different direction, and he began to paint emotional interpretations of attractive things and portraits in his style. In 2001 he began painting the “Colors Series”, a personal understanding of Flamenco through color. His latest works depict lineless images of Flamenco dancers with a high emphasis on maintaining movement and energy alive. Glorioso is also a talented photographer. Working in a new technique he is mixing the two media, and created his series “Movimiento” (2004-07) and “Flamenco Vibe” (2005). He also produced a small series of paintings of dancers and the beaches of Santa Monica, CA. He started painting a new series on ballet dancers in 2006. Some of those paintings have been exhibited in conjunction with other artist. In December 2008 Gustavo exhibited a combination of the three series on dancing at Buffalo Big Print Gallery.
Gustavo is actually working on a series of "Ballet Dancers" (2006-10 Series 1), and "Ballet" (2010-13 Series 2), and "Dance", 2015 to present times, Series 3.
He is an accomplished photographer of documentaries and commercial photography. His images are elegant and enticing. He photographed over 650 magazine covers for the Bee Publications. He photographed for the Chautauqua Dance Institute (2008), giving his images national and international exposure.
Gustavo also teaches Art Education at Franklin Middle School, in Kenmore (NY), since 1995, and in 1998 Gustavo founded ESTUDIO ART GALLERY, (located in Williamsville (NY). His wife, Melissa, and him, give back to the WNY community by servicing students of all ages in art practices and art education. Gustavo works on commissions as well as on his personal projects.
